A pine-lined road through the mountains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa · 5 days / 4 nights

Swat and Kumrat

From PKR 62,000 per person

Five days joining the two green valleys: Swat and Kalam first, then Kumrat's forest for a night under the deodars. The best single trip if you want both water and woods. From PKR 62,000 a person for four.

Doing Swat and Kumrat separately wastes two long approaches from Lahore. This route takes the river road first, then crosses toward Dir and the forest, and comes home once. Five days is the shortest version that still gives each valley a night of its own.

The road

The link between Kalam and Kumrat is not a scenic afterthought. It is a driving day, and we keep it as a driving day. Trying to add Mahodand on the same morning is how luggage and tempers get left behind.

Day by day

  1. Day 1 — Lahore into Swat

The first night is in lower or middle Swat, close enough to have arrived and far enough that tomorrow's river road starts without a city commute.

  2. Day 2 — Kalam

Up the Swat river to Kalam. Time by the water in the evening. The town is a pause, not a performance.

  3. Day 3 — Mahodand, then toward the forest

An early jeep toward Mahodand, back to Kalam by midday, and the road toward Dir only as far as daylight allows. We do not finish this day in the dark on a jeep track.

  4. Day 4 — Kumrat

Into the deodars. A walk, the river, and a night that is the reason for adding this valley to Swat. Katora is included when the group is fit and the day is clear. It is not dragged into a timetable that cannot hold it.

  5. Day 5 — Lahore

Out of the forest at first light and down to the plains. You are home at night. If anyone flies the next morning, tell us and we will protect that connection instead of a last viewpoint.

Before you decide

  • This is the route we suggest when a group cannot choose between Swat and Kumrat.
  • Pack one small bag you can move into a jeep without a discussion.
  • Best season: May to early October
  • From the Swat river near 1,000 metres up to Kumrat's forest around 2,500 metres and higher.
